Alison Brie is in a villain era right now and she's loving it.
In the film "Masters of the Universe" »(in theaters Friday), beloved Mattel characters He-Man, Teela, Man-at-Arms, and more appear on the big screen. Fighting the heroic warriors of Eternia are Jared Leto's Skeletor and Bree's Evil Lynn—an iconic duo that the actress says was "a lot of fun" to play.
«"They're mean, but they do it with humor," Brie, 43, tells PEOPLE at a screening of the film. «Masters of the Universe» for fans in New York on Monday, June 1. "They have a very complicated relationship, very contradictory, especially on my part—love and hate.".
The villainous sorceress Evil-Lyn wittily remarks, "A lot of people roll their eyes... If you're evil, you shouldn't take yourself too seriously. You should really enjoy life.".

«The sci-fi film's "impeccable" director, Travis Knight, "really allowed us to improvise a lot," adds Brie. "So everything flowed naturally and naturally, and it was a lot of fun.".

Did Brie and Leto stay in character between takes? "No villains off-camera," the actress says. "I was just having fun the whole time, enjoying the process. They built incredible sets, and they were really there.".

She also gave 54-year-old Leto "a few breaks," she recalls. "As Skeletor, he wore a very heavy blue suit that simulated muscle. I felt like I wanted to give him a chance to conserve his strength.".
