In the trailer for "By Any Means Necessary," Wahlberg appears as mafia hitman Greg Scarpa. He wears elaborate makeup, and when first seen on screen, it's hard to tell if it's really him. Abdul-Mateen II, on the other hand, plays FBI agent Strider.
In the trailer, Strider is forced to work alongside Scarpa to solve a mysterious case involving the brutal murders of civil rights leaders. While the two characters differ greatly in their values and personalities, they agree on one thing: the law has its limits, and they do not. When the situation spirals out of control, they resort to extreme measures, breaking the rules to solve the case.
By Any Means Necessary also stars Nicole Beharie, Josh Lucas, LisaGay Hamilton, LaChanze, Ethan Embry, with David Strathairn and Giancarlo Esposito in supporting roles.

In April, Paramount acquired the distribution rights to this action-packed film. Sasha Penn wrote the screenplay. Alex Lebovici, Chester Algernal Gordon, Elegance Bratton, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Mark Wahlberg, and Stephen Levinson also produced the film.
