Hawaiian actor Jason Momoa, who has several more films in the works and is enjoying the success of his global hit "A Minecraft Movie," says he is experiencing a unique moment.
«"This is probably the most successful year of my career," Momoa, 46, told AFP.
The actor said he enjoys playing a wide variety of roles, including Lobo, the intergalactic bounty hunter in the upcoming Supergirl film, which he called a "childhood dream.".
The star also starred in the film adaptation of the game "Street Fighter" and in the "Dune" trilogy, the final part of which will be released in December.
Momoa, who rose to fame with Game of Thrones, had the opportunity to work with Julian Schnabel, whom he has called his favorite director, on In Dante's Hands, which premieres this month on Netflix.
The actor is on a roll after landing a comedic role in the box office hit "A Minecraft Movie" last year, where he starred alongside Jack Black.
«"Minecraft has really become very popular, you know?" he said. "We didn't expect that.".
«"I always wanted to do comedies. I mean, I've been doing action movies my whole life," where playing superheroes seemed "inevitable." But he loved the opportunity to "make people laugh.".
The actor said that comedic roles like the one he played in "The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part," where he voices a parody of Aquaman, a character he's played in several projections, have also allowed him to connect with a very special audience: his family.
«"It was an incredible moment because my kids got to see me voice a commercial," he said. While they don't seem particularly interested in his other roles, "when I work with Lego, I'm a real star.".
The actor reconnected with the iconic Lego building brick brand on Monday, making his debut as "Playmaster," the central figure in Lego's "Never Stop Playing" campaign, which aims to encourage families to spend more time playing with their children amid the growing popularity of social media and screens.
«"I grew up with Legos. My kids grew up with Legos," said Momoa, who sees the colorful pieces and their endless possibilities as a tool for developing creativity and imagination.
«"That's what fills my heart with joy," he said.
This unique role came with a bonus: «The fact that Lego chose me to create their own little figures… was something special.».
