Popular pop star Olivia Rodrigo was outraged by "propaganda" promoting the Trump administration's deportation agenda even before she discovered her music was being used in one of their social media posts.
The "Deja Vu" singer told Dazed magazine she was initially stunned, then furious, when she was scrolling through her phone feed and saw that the US Department of Homeland Security had used her song "All-american *****" in a public service announcement encouraging immigrants to "self-deport.".

Rodrigo said seeing the video of agents chasing, detaining, and arresting people felt like a double whammy.
«"Seeing this propaganda made me deeply outraged, and the fact that my song was there made me even more angry," she said.
When the post first appeared last November, the Grammy Award-winning singer immediately took to the comments section to address the internet trolls at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security: "Never use my songs to promote your racist, hateful propaganda.".

While the video is still available on the Department of Homeland Security's Instagram, it has no sound, and tapping the sound icon displays a warning: "This song can't be played because it is currently unavailable.".
Rodrigo said she was ashamed to live in a place where such inhumane people could exist: "What they do is terrible, barbaric, and cruel. It makes me very sad to live in a country where this is considered normal.".

While some musicians are wary of expressing their political views in a world so divided, the "Vampire" singer told Dazed: "I think part of an artist's job is to share your feelings with other people.".
«"I don't have a political science degree, I'm not the most educated person on planet Earth, but I like to try to stay informed and share my thoughts," added Rodrigo, who first spoke out against President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown after the Los Angeles raids last June.
«"I've lived in Los Angeles my entire life and am deeply outraged by these brutal deportations of my neighbors under this administration," she wrote on her Instagram story at the time. "Los Angeles simply wouldn't exist without immigrants.".
«"This kind of disdainful, indifferent, and lawless treatment of hardworking members of society is appalling," she continued in her post. "I stand with the beautiful, diverse community of Los Angeles and immigrants across America. I stand up for our right to free speech and freedom of protest.".
