Olivia Rodrigo has addressed rumors of a feud between her and Taylor Swift. The "Good 4 U" singer addressed long-running rumors of tension in her relationship with the "Lavender Haze" singer, insisting she tries not to let the speculation affect her.
In the latest episode of the New York Times' Popcast podcast, Olivia, 23, opened up about the years of online controversy surrounding her relationship with Taylor, 36.
«"I think I've tried not to let it upset me or make me sad. I'm just trying to move on," she said. "It was so long ago. I don't think there's any point in going over it again and again.".
The Grammy Award winner went on to explain that throughout her career, she has "always" tried to support other artists.
«"I just try to write songs that I like, and I try to be kind and supportive and compassionate to other people," she said. "I've always tried to be like that. At the end of the day, I think that's all you can do.".
Rumors of tension between the two first surfaced in 2021 after the release of Olivia's debut album, Sour.
Fans and critics have pointed out similarities between her song "Déjà vu" and Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer," with Olivia previously admitting to being inspired by Taylor's vocal style when creating the song.
A few months later, Taylor and her frequent collaborators Jack Antonoff and St. Vincent were added as co-writers on the song "Déjà vu," receiving songwriting credits and a share of the royalties.
Speculation later intensified when some fans suggested that Olivia's 2023 hit "Vampire," which includes lyrics like "bloodsucker, fame fucker, sucking all the juice out of me," could be a reference to Taylor and the royalty scandal.
However, neither artist has publicly addressed the dispute and has supported each other in the past.
In a 2023 interview with Rolling Stone, Olivia also insisted that she had "no beef" with the music industry.
«"I'm very quiet. I keep to myself," she said. "I have four friends and my mom, and they're basically the only people I ever talk to. I have nothing to say. There are so many conspiracy theories on Twitter. I only look at the alien conspiracy theories.".
