On Monday, August 17, a retired Las Vegas police officer testified in court and recounted the last words he Tupac Shakur ever told him.
Officer Harry Dale , a former veteran of the Las Vegas Police Department, testified that he rode with paramedics who rushed Shakur to the hospital after the rapper and head of Death Row Records Suge Knight came under heavy fire on September 7, 1996, according to a report released Daily Mail on Tuesday, August 18th.
«"I tried to talk to him to find out what happened, to gather information about who shot them," Dale told the prosecutor. Mark DiGiacomo , according to the report. "He was still talking, and I tried to convince him to tell me the names of his attackers.".
As the publication reported, Dale said the "California Love" singer refused to name his attackers, instead saying, "No, we'll handle it ourselves.".

The testimony came on the first day of the long-awaited murder trial. Dwayne "Keffe D" Davis , the only person ever charged with the murder of Shakur, who was 25 at the time of his death. Davis, 63, has pleaded not guilty to one count of murder with the use of a deadly weapon with intent to aid, promote or assist a criminal gang and, according to Daily Mail , If found guilty, he faces life imprisonment.
In a trial expected to last about a month, prosecutors allege Davis orchestrated the drive-by shooting in retaliation for an attack on his nephew. Orlando Anderson , committed several hours earlier at the MGM Grand Hotel. According to NPR, Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal told jurors that Davis spent two hours planning revenge before Shakur was shot.

Defense attorney Michael Sanft objected to the prosecution's case, arguing that detectives relied too heavily on Davis' past testimony, including statements made in his 2019 memoir, "« The Legend of Compton Street"» .
As reported by Daily Mail , the detective who worked on the case, "treats the book as hard fact.".
On Monday, jurors also viewed photographs obtained during the autopsy. Forensic expert Dr. Lisa Gavin testified about the trajectories of the bullets that killed Shakur. The images were not shown publicly.
As testimony continues, jurors will have to weigh decades-old witness testimony, forensic evidence, and Davis's own recorded words to decide whether prosecutors have finally proven his alleged involvement in one of the most famous cold cases in hip-hop history.
