In an interview with Amy Poehler on the June 2 episode of her Good Hang podcast, Tom Holland spoke candidly about his concerns about hosting Saturday Night Live. Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe star had been offered the opportunity to host the sketch comedy show several times, he never accepted. The actor admitted that he feared misreading flashcards due to his dyslexia.
«"I have severe dyslexia, and that's one of the reasons—and I'd love to talk to you about this today, by the way—why I've never been on SNL," Holland revealed candidly. "The idea of trying to read something and having it change is just terrifying to me.".
Poehler continued, "I'm sure they've had a lot of dyslexic hosts." Holland agreed, "That's absolutely true," before explaining, "It's just that I can read just fine. But when I have to read out loud, it becomes kind of... it's like a mental block, and I can freeze.".
The actor continued: "For me, the worst day at work is a table read. During a table read, I try to highlight every detail and memorize my lines in advance so I can skim the script rather than read it all.".
Holland added: "I've been very fortunate to have been invited a few times, and frankly, I'm just terrified of the prospect—I love the show, and I love the idea of having fun and making a fool of myself in such a funny and creative way. It's just about those cue cards.".
Meanwhile, Holland will return as the titular hero, Spider-Man, in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Spider-Man: New Day. The film is set for release on July 31, 2026.
